How do you make sure you are getting as much out of each year of your life as possible? Shortly after having kids, my wife and I noticed we could easily consume 110% of our time taking care of family and minding our professional lives. As important as each of these things is they are not our whole life. So…
We started making a serious set of New Years Resolutions in 6 distinct categories. 6 categories??!! Our categories are: family; fitness; sex/relationship; friends/social life; hobbies; and community/charity. For each of these categories, we get 3 or 4 goals (usually more for sex) that we try to make sure we achieve during the year. Three or four times a year we will go out for dinner and discuss how we are doing against each of our goals. I love it.
Now is the time of year we start to think about next year’s resolutions.
How about you — do you plan how you want to spend your next year? And how do the elements that sometimes take a backseat (eg. sex, relationships, hobbies) fare?
