Do you remember back in college when you and your partner-of-the-moment would stay up all night having sex, falling asleep in a sweaty heap just as the sun was coming up?
You wanted those moments to last for ever.. and you had the stamina to make it happen.
Those days are gone apparently. A new survey found that the average sexual session amongst couples lasts only 12 minutes. 12 minutes!!! This was a big study – capturing over 2,000 sexual encounters.
That seems like a hopelessly minute amount of time. I wonder why
- is it because we are so busy? Probably. With all of us (and our kids) so over-programmed I suppose finding more that a few minutes can be really tough for some.
- is it because we are so tired? This is linked the above, but I know a lot of adults are chronically exhausted so mustering the energy for anything more than a perfunctory quickie may be beyond them
- is it because we are so bored? I think this has a lot to do with it. We find hours to watch TV, mess around on our phones. Surely, if sex and intimacy were really a priority would could squeeze out at least enough time for the duration of a Friends rerun (22 minutes on Netflix).
My guess… it comes down to priorities. Many, many many couples are simply not prioritizing intimacy and good sex.
So, tonight.. a challenge – watch the sun come up from your bedroom as you and your partner lay in a pile of bed sheets and lingerie after having fu*&ed each others brains out all night. I dare you.
Now that’s a challenge.
Well, I don’t have the desire to stay *up all night* having sex… but I will have sex before going to sleep, once in the middle of the night, and again in the morning. I think it’s a good compromise. I get sleep and I feel sexually satisfied! 🙂
I’m always up for a challenge 🙂
