I am nearing the end of my first week in Block 2 of P90X3; it is definitely a step up in intensity from Block 1, and the last three days have felt pretty intense. I will go s bit out of order here — Friday was yoga, which was part of block 1 too, so I new what to expect and it is not too tough. I did go rock climbing on Friday too, so that made for a pretty good, intense day.
Thursday was Triometrics. This was my first time with Tony’s re-imagination of plyometrics. Trio is similar to its predecessor, but with a little less jumping and a bit more deep and balance squats. I would say the level of intensity is similar, with a major caveat on that. In order to get the workout down in under 30 minutes he had to eliminate a lot of the break time. I was exhausted by the 16 minute mark when the first break came – and it was short. Overall great, exhausting workout.
Skip to Saturday – eccentric lower. I really like X3’s increased emphasis on lower body and this workout is a very good realization of that. Tons of balance squats and lunges and, overall, a great leg workout if your desire is functionality and definition. You will not get bodybuilder legs with this workout but it will get you good and ready for athletics that require strong legs.
Sunday (today) was Incinerator. I am happy to say that it is not quite as tough as a fearer. The back-to-back exercises on the same muscle group was intense, but because the workout hit chest, back, shoulders, bis and tris, it was not deadly with regard to any. Really good workout though and great complement to eccentric upper.
