I did two X3 workouts this weekend – Dynamics and Total Synergistics – as well as a pretty good rock climbing session on Saturday (although I worked more on skills than really tough climbing so it is was not too onerous).
Saturday was the first try at Dynamics for me. It was quite different from the other P90 ‘rest day’ routine. It was a little more active than the usual stretch routines, with a mix of lunges, core and stretch. It actually felt like a bit of a workout, rather than just a good stretch, and I did break a slight sweat. While I really liked it, I did miss the rumble rolling and the neuro integrated stretches of X2.
That afternoon we went rock climbing to make it a twofer day. I am working hard to improve my rock climbing technique (I rely way too much on strength and my technique is awful, as my kids are increasingly telling me). So, my wife and I worked on blindfolded climbing (to force you to improve balance on the rock) and handless climbing (to force you to engage with your legs and core). It was a bit of a humbling day.
Sunday was the start of Week 3 of X3, so Total Synergistics. It is amazing to see progress as you do the block 1 workout for the 2nd and now 3rd time. I remember the first time doing this workout, feeling very awkward on many of the moves. Now, 3rd time in, most of the moves felt much more natural and stronger and I could objectively measure progress on many. I increased my weight to 25 on the shoulder exercise; I didn’t have to take any breaks on the pile weighed set; and best of all, I was able to do the full set of brannon boat. All that said, I still had a really tough time with warrior squat moon, but it will come.
