When the Beachbody team designed MMX for P90X3 , they were obviously trying to capture the mixed martial arts workout feel of Kenpo X (from the original P90X) but combined with a more intense cardio element that their are trying to infuse through X3. They succeeded wonderfully. If Kenpo X was, in Tony’s words, a ‘butt kicking good time’, this is definitely ‘ass kicking’.
– More complex punch and kick patterns and more elbow moves (as opposed to punches) have you moving your core more and are a little more gentle on your joints.
– By building sprawls into many move patterns, the cardio element is amped may up beyond Kenpo.
My one complaint is that 30 seconds per move pattern sometimes felt a bit short. Because the moves are not as intense as in the ploy or trio workouts, I often felt it would have been useful to add an extra 10-15 seconds per set. This fits with my overall assessment of X3 – awesome workouts but some are hard to derive maximum benefit from in just 30 minutes. This would have made and excellent 40 minute workout.
