There was a line I loved from the old sitcom Rosanne, where the father (Dan) is explaining masturbation to his son (DJ). Dan explains that it is ok to do and everyone does it. To which DJ asked… “do you do it? how often? where?” Dan is a mess and says “Look DJ… Everyone does is…. NOBODY talks about it”.
Well, more and more people are comfortable talking about masturbation… that they do it, its benefits, its sexiness.
In fact, a study by the Kinsey Institute finds that almost 15% of people have masturbated with their partner. The term used “mutual masturbation” and it is increasingly being recognized as a fun, sexy and healthy thing to do.
Why is mutual masturbation a good idea?
– you can show your partner how you like to be touched, and they can show you
– it is a good way to discuss fantasies and desires; as you touch your inhibitions lower and you will likely share things that may be tougher to share when you are not in such an aroused state;
– if you are not comfortable having sex during menstruation, it gives an options where you can both get off, but avoid any squeamishness either of you may have
– it is a new arrow in the sexual variety quiver
For me personally, mutual masturbation is something I really like. I love to see my wife pleasuring herself and the sexy discussions and fantasies we share are really fun. It is also a great way to draw our foreplay. For us, it usually leads to sex, but this need not be the case (and is not always the case fro us)
So, given the potential benefits, would you… have you?
