This weekend, my wife and I were back in a shopping mall for the first time in 4 months. I knew there would be changes and that there would be stores that probably had no survived this period of economic retreat. What I had not anticipated was how perfectly this economic collapse would seem to target the places I loved most.
My first stop, after getting my daughter a few outfit at Garage, was to be Guess. I hadn’t bought clothes in months and as I thought about being able to return to restaurants, I felt I needed a few outfit. But Guess was gone. I was really surprised and a little saddened. There aren’t very many placed I really like for clothes, so I will miss that.
But the Guess experience was nothing compared to what came next. Victoria’s Secret, also gone. This was there flagship store in our city and a go-to spot for my wife and her best friend. Seeing them come home from a trip to VS and modelling their purchases… that was my favourite thing ever!!
But its not just VS being gone. I read recently that all lingerie stores were in trouble. Not just because of online shopping, but that people were buying less lingerie. Many of the major lingerie shops have switched to carrying more pyjamas and casual wear, as people seemed to have stopped buying (and wearing) lingerie during the pandemic. This broke my heart a bit.
With a pandemic in full swing this is when we need lingerie the most. Come on!
