My bet: Obama is getting ready to approve the pipeline.
The irresistible force: jobs, enhanced North American energy infrastructure, a pipeline that in and of itself is not that dangerous and a recent announcement by the Alberta Premier that oilsands will be more tightly regulated and have a carbon tax.
The moveable object: the opposition to KXL has done an admirable job at coalescing opposition but at the end of the day environmentalists have not been able to deliver many votes or influence meaningfully many seats. They also tend to have poor memories and they know that whatever the decision on KXL, Obama and the Democrats are their best chance at progress.
KXL will be built. Lets hope the environmental movement has a phase 2 plan at moving North America to low carbon energy.
