We all feel boring sometimes. Even the most creative people go through periods were it feels a little blah. And especially in these covid times, it can be challenging to be interesting.
For the blogger, this can be tough. How do you come up with a new idea to write about each day. I was thinking about this yesterday. So, this is what I came up with – more a series of thoughts, ideas and questions, rather than a coherent solutions.
- Explore multiple themes in your blog. Your blog is primarily a fitness blog. Toss in a post or two on climate change or relationships. Tell us about the book you’ve been reading. I know this could be a little alienating for the reader who is only opening your page because of your fitness posts, but it gives them an opportunity to know you better. And to know your multiple dimensions. To be honest, I don’t know if this is a good idea of not. I try to do it every once in a while and I’m not really sure what my readers think.
- Read widely. I pick up a lot of my blogging ideas from articles. I read. Ideally, I would like a clever idea to pop into my head each day. But sometimes it doesn’t. So I’ll go back to articles I’ve read and mine an idea from one of those.
- Crowd Sourcing. I will often ask my wife of friends for ideas on what to write about. To be honest, probably half of my better topics come from others.
- Be both personal and observational. My favourite blogs are ones where the author both has interesting reflections on the world but also speak to his or her own experience in it.
During covid, new ideas are tough. But that only makes them all the more precious.
