We’ve all noticed it. As we’re trapped in our homes, denied socializing and outings, time doesn’t seem to pass as it used to. One day blends into the next and weekends and weekdays don’t seem as distinct as they used to. Psychologists call it subjective time, and it happens because our days and weekend now lack punctuated moments of delineation. All time blends and, frankly, it gets a little mundane.
How do we get out of this funk? Well, it takes effort. If the problem is that all of our activities are simply blending together for lack of differentiation, we need to find ways to shake it up. A few suggestions”
- get a hotel room and do a vacation in your own town. Hotels are open, well sanitized, and can provide a wonderful oasis in the city. Bring a nice bottle of wine, a good meal, have sex all night… shake it up
- rent a cottage for the weekend. A few environment, and access to nature and water, can be a real game changer. It really breaks up the routines we’ve fallen into
- see friends. Some people seem to have no used to be non-social thats they’ve forgotten how much it added to their lives. Get back out there. Even if you have to respect social distancing
- Turn off the TV. ‘Nuf said.
Life can seem tough and a little mundane these days. Get yourself out of that spin.
