Are you the master of the your own domain (not to give away my age, but I can remember the Seinfeld episode)…. or are you a ‘blogturbator’?
I’ve never heard the term, but a recent article in Huffington Post introduced me to blogturbation. They describe it as a high propensity to read and wrote blogs about sex. They describe it as a form of self sexual self stimulation. But for our largest sexual organ – the mind.
I like the concept and proudly consider myself a blogturbator. My day-to-day life mainly revolves around very serious issues – politics, environmental sustainability, academics, family… Great stuff, but not too light. But I love sex.. not just doing it, but the discussing it and figuring out the role it plays in a happy relationship, society…
So, I write about sex… a lot. And I talk about sex (with a certain subset of friends).. a lot. And I love it. Sex is so basic to us as humans yet taboo to discuss. I’ve never understood that, and in my own small way, have always wanted to rebel against it.
When I started this blog, my plan had been to do a mix of political, environmental and relationship writing. I quickly found that the posts I most enjoyed writing were those pertaining to sex. I would write on sexual science, sexual politics, sex and religion, advice (often naive) of how to better accommodate sex in a relationship, sexual experimentation that my wife and I are engaged in… And it was also these posts that were mostly widely read.
So I have become a blogturbator.
