A friend recently said to me “you speak about sex more than anyone I know”. I’m sure he was right, but I am not sure his underlying point – that I talk about sex too much – was, in fact correct.
I said back to him… ‘what percent of the time do you think we spend talking a bout sex?’ Its probably 10-15% of our discussions. And I also asked ‘compared with the amount of time you spend thinking about sex, do you think we talk about it more or less than that?”
For both off these he agreed with me – we likely only talk about sex about 10% of the time we talk, and that he thinks about it far more than that. My point to him was that sex is a big part of our lives and our interests and, if anything, its weird that we do not talk about it more. Not just he and I, but all of us.
So, here is my plea. This week, try to have at least 3 conversations about sex with people with whom you do not normally discuss sex. It doesn’t have to be salacious or flirty. But it has to be about sex.
